Rosette Choker/Hair Accessory

One of my favorite ways to partake in fashion trends is with DIY hair accessories. It’s such a good low stakes, low cost option to participate without investing in larger trendy items. These rose hair ribbons double as a choker and can really be tied onto all kinds of things.

How To

Step 1

Cut fabric to 10 m x 10 cm.

Step 2

Fold in half (with the pretty side of the fabric showing on the outside).

The bottom stitch won’t show so no need to hide the stitch by flipping it inside out.

Step 3

Hand sew the bottom end together with a really big loose stitch, every few inches. Gather as you go (for my newbie sewers, that just means scrunch the fabric down to the beginning side of the thread). When you’re done, finish it with a knot but leave about an inch of extra thread so it’s not too tight and you have room to move it around if needed.

I chose to hand stitch over a sewing machine because it actually seemed like a quicker option as you can gather the fabric in one step while you sew. This took me only a couple of minutes.

Step 4

Start to roll one side in. You will continue to roll in the same direction and you’ll see how it immediately starts to look like a rose. After you roll a small piece in, make a stitch at the bottom to connect it to the previous side. Do this with every roll in to hold the shape you want and finish with a knot when done.

Step 5

Sew onto a ribbon. I made a few stitches on both edges of the ribbon where it connected to the rose. This makes all the difference so that the rose doesn’t droop off the ribbon if it’s holding on by a single stitch.

Voila!
