Cinderella

One of my favorite ways to do a “popular'“ costume is to find a more unique scene to mimic. I love Cinderella but didn’t want to do what has already been done so I made her costume from when her dress gets torn by the evil stepsisters.

I found a dress at the thrift store, which ended up being more than perfect. I looked for any kind of gown that had a full skirt and bonus if you can find a similar bodice like this. Remember you can remove any sleeves, etc., so just look for the bones! We are going to deconstruct the dress anyway.

First I cut off the top layer of the skirt. Then I made a pattern for the bodice by tracing half of it. Fold your fabric in half and lay the pattern on top of it so that after you cut it, you can unfold it and have a full top. Make sure to include a couple inches of padding.

Cinderella’s skirt is two-toned to show the underneath side of the skirt. She’s a cartoon so it’s dramatic and I wanted to mimic that effect but using two different colored pink fabrics. I double lined the skirt with the hot pink underneath and sewed that on. Then you deconstruct again! I cut into my skirt to mimic the tears and used some of the scraps as props to throw on the ground during pictures!
