Pom Pom Jacket
This jacket was one of my first DIY projects in 2017. After weeks of looking to buy an elaborate jacket with no luck, I decided to create something over the top for Mardi Gras weekend. To say it was a conversation starter was an understatement, but the best part was that the pom poms provided lots of insulation making it extremely warm!
Overview
Materials
Thrifted jacket
Hot glue gun
Pom poms (A LOT! Unfortunately as I made this in 2017, I didn’t keep track of the quantity that I used. I was also a broke college kid who was trying to get by with the bare minimum, but I remember having to go back to Hobby Lobby like 6 times to get more).
How To
Step 1
Thrift your jacket. I couldn’t find the exact shape I wanted so I adjusted one to crop it and round the edges. I had just gotten my sewing machine and was brand new so please excuse the very rough stitching (which, as I knew then, didn’t matter as it would be covered in poms).
Step 2
Hot glue on your pom poms! I wish I had taken more photos of the process back then, but I never thought I would ever be sharing this anywhere. I’m not gonna lie, this was a LONG process! I hot glued for many nights, and as mentioned above, took many trips to the store to restock on poms as I needed so many more than I thought.
If you look closely in some of the below photos you can see that when I stretch out my arms, some of the gaps of the purple jacket shows through. Luckily purple matched the theme so keep that in mind when thrifting a jacket.
