Palm Royale Inspired Decor Ideas
From the start of watching Palm Royale, I found myself so lost in the backdrops that I had to rewind to figure out what was happening in the plot. Set in 1960s Palm Beach where ‘more is more,’ the show is filled with elegant, lavish and colorful decor that both pulls you in and makes the characters stand out.
Each character has a specific color palette and style, but there are common themes throughout. Palm Beach was largely built in the 1920’s as a winter retreat for ‘new money’ snowbirds, becoming a place as outwardly decadent as those who lived within it. Architectural inspiration was drawn from the stately palaces, villas and palazzos of Europe, with notable architects such as Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio mixing the European grandeur with a modern aesthetic. As styles changed and new architects brought in fresh ideas, Palm Beach evolved into a layered mixture of styles, including: Italianate, Regency, Modernist, Georgian, Mediterranean, Southern, French and Spanish.
Palm Beach architecture is characterized by indoor-outdoor living, with courtyards, always ajar French doors, breezeways and large windows. The indoors also takes a nod from the outside, with an emphasis on botanicals and wildlife of the area, like bamboo furniture, rattan, nods to flamingos and pineapples, grasscloth wallpaper and pale jewel tones.
